WHAT HAPPENED TO MADELEINE AFTER THESE PICTURES WERE TAKEN?

Picture 1 – Madeleine by the Ocean Club Swimming Pool

The McCanns say that this photo of Madeleine was taken on the last day of their holiday, Thursday 3 May 2007.

BUT IT NOW SEEMS THAT THIS CLAIM WAS FALSE.

A team of researchers connected to CMOMM noted that the photo was taken on a hot, sunny day. That is obvious from the photo; Madeleine, her father and sisters are wearing light clothing, dipping their feet into the pool. And the two children have summer hats on. Gerry is wearing sunglasses and there is a sheen of perspiration on him. The photo was taken at around 2pm, when the sun is at its highest in southern Portugal at that time of year.
The weather on Thursday, however, was mostly cloudy, cool and windy - not warming up until well after 4pm that afternoon.
So when was it taken?

Saturday was hot and sunny – but the McCanns didn’t arrive at the Ocean Clun until late afternoon. So it could not have been taken on Saturday.

Sunday was hot and sunny.

The weather changed on Monday, becoming cloudier, cooler, windier and bringing some rain. It could not have been taken on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

This photo could only have been taken on the Sunday – four days before Madeleine was reported missing.

A CREDIBLE SIGHTING OF MADELEINE ON SUNDAY LUNCHTIME

A Portuguese witness gave detailed, independent confirmation that Madeleine was alive at lunchtime on the Sunday, shortly before the above photo was taken. It was a cleaner, María Serafim da Silva Espada. This was part of her witness statement to the Portuguese police:

She had the opportunity to observe the photos of Madeleine being circulated everywhere. She has no hesitation in confirming that she saw the child before her disappearance, in the company of her siblings and mother and father, although in the latter case she only observed him from a distance.

“She states that this took place on Sunday 29th April, just before she finished her morning work shift (1.30pm) as she had the afternoon off that day. At about 1.15pm, she went to help her mother, who was cleaning apartment I of the same block (5) situated on the first floor. She clearly remembers seeing Madeleine accompanied by her siblings and mother leave their apartment (5A) and walk to the stairs leading to the floor above. She was very close to them at a distance of about 1 metre, observing their movements for a few moments because she was charmed by them. Madeleine led the way with a plate (perhaps plastic) in her hand, bearing a piece of bread.
As regards the clothes she was wearing she only remembers a skirt but cannot recall its description. She noted, because she thought them nice, the type of shoes she was wearing, tennis shoes, light in colour she thinks, which had little lights along the soles, which lit up each time she stepped on the ground. Her siblings followed behind her, wearing the same kind of shoes and each holding a piece of bread in their hands. Their mother followed behind them without holding their hands. She seems to remember that the mother was also carrying a plate. Moments afterwards, perhaps the time it took to close the apartment door, the father came out and also headed to the apartment upstairs”.

----------

There is no doubt that María Serafim da Silva Espada was describing Madeleine. Madeleine was wearing a dress, or smock top, that day, as can be seen on the above photo. Madeleine and her twin siblings did all have ‘light up’ shoes on that holiday.

But if we look at other claimed sightings of Madeleine that week, there are very few. There are of course claims made by the McCanns themselves, their Tapas 7 friends, and two creche nannies who were close to the McCanns – but none of these are truly independent witnesses, so their evidence cannot be relied on. Of the handful of other claimed sightings of Madeleine that week, all are vague and could just as easily refer to another young blonde girl.

There are no other independent sightings of Madeleine the whole week after this important one by María Serafim da Silva Espada at Sunday lunchtime.

WHAT HAPPENED TO MADELEINE AFTER THESE PICTURES WERE TAKEN? Lolita10

Picture 2 – Madeleine dressed by an adult as a ‘Lolita

This strange picture was never released by the McCanns themselves, for obvious reasons. It was released in a video, three years after Madeleine’s disappearance, by Madeleine’s godfather, Jon Corner, a Liverpool based film-maker. Even national newspapers commented that the photo was ill-chosen as she was dressed like a ‘Lolita’.

There was a ‘Twitterstorm’ of protest about it.

Asked for comments, the McCanns said that ‘Madeleine had been playing with Mummy’s dressing-up box.

THIS WAS ANOTHER PHOTO ABOUT WHICH THE MCCANNS APPEAR TO HAVE MADE A FALSE STATEMENT

On this photo, we can clearly see that an adult has placed a hair bead on her and hung a necklace around her neck. Also visible are two areas of eyeshadow and red lipstick which could not have been applied neatly by a three-year-old. Close-ups of the photo suggest that she even had black eyeliner around her eyes. She had then been photographed, clearly posed. Most observers agree that she does not look at all happy.

This was not Madeleine playing with her dressing-up box.

Moreover, CMOMM researchers noted that in the background was a yellow stucco wall similar to many apartments in Praia da Luz. In addition, comparing this photo with Photo 1 above (by the pool), it appeared highly probable that they were taken on the very same day. Madeleine’s hair length is identical. Madeleine is wearing a pink top in both photos, and she has a pink hair bead in both photos.

There is every likelihood therefore that the ‘Lolita’ photo was taken some time later the same day as the photo of Madeleine by the Ocean Club pool.

Astonishingly, the McCanns cannot produce one undisputed photograph of Madeleine taken later in the week. The only one they have produced, the so-called ‘Tennis Balls Photo’, is claimed to have been taken by two different people and on two entirely different days. Its true provenance cannot therefore be established.

The McCanns’ evidence on these and many other matters cannot be relied on - and in any event is often contradictory or seems deliberately confused..

So we conclude with these two questions.

  1. Why do we not have even ONE undisputed photograph of Madeleine after these two photos were taken on Sunday 29 April?
  2. Why do we not have even ONE independent witness statement to prove that Madeleine was alive after she was seen by María Serafim da Silva Espada at lunchtime the same day, Sunday 29 April

What happened to her after that?

Holiday weather in Praia da Luz: Thursday 3rd is described as 'transition day' with the evening being rather better

Posted by PeterMac on CMOMM
1 Jan 2014

Holiday weather

As was said a long time ago, pretty much a disaster.

The Algarve - despite what Gerry clearly believes - is on the North Atlantic.  This is a cold sea, and brings with it cold air temperatures.  April is still spring.
When we look at the statements and rogatories of the group, all say the same thing.   After the first day the weather was dreadful.  It was cold, and even raining, necessitating wearing all their available warm clothes; two families at least saying they did not lift the shutters all week; the McCanns driven back from the beach after 20 minutes because the children did not like the cold wet sand.
And it only seems to have started to change significantly by the evening of Thursday 3rd.

Matthew Oldfield
4078 "Do you remember what the weather was like then?"

Reply "Erm, it wasn't, erm, not specifically, it was a better day on the Thursday than it was on the Wednesday, because we had rain, and I think it was sort of warmer and bit more clear, I don't remember the, it may have been a bit cloudy, but I don't remember specifically".
* * *
4078   "And we covered the weather, you can’t remember it being a particularly windy night.”
Reply   "No I don’t remember much about the weather on that night err I’m just thinking more about when we were actually running along the beach and along the err and along the front doing the, the search and I don’t recall it being err particularly windy but as I think we said but last time it was windy enough for us to sail in the afternoon but they didn’t necessarily translate it to have been windy in the evening.”

Rachel Oldfield
Reply    “. . probably that the weather had been a bit better that day and (inaudible) remember when the rest of us were there, we talked about Matt falling off the boat and Russell rescuing him and you know,

Fiona Payne
I actually am wondering whether we went to the beach at all before Thursday, just because I’m thinking about the weather and I remember thinking at the time, it’s such a shame for the kids that we haven’t really gone to the beach, because, you know, that a part of the reason we chose the resort”.

1485     “Yeah”.
Reply      “But it had been so kind of cool in the afternoons it, erm, hadn’t been much fun.  So I don’t want to commit to the fact that we went there, I think Thursday may well have been”.
1485    “The first time?”
Reply     “We definitely went on the Thursday and I think that might have been the first time we actually did that as a group, minus Kate and Gerry”.
* * *
And I remember the Thursday was a bit of a transition day, as I say, you know, with the weather, it just seemed to warm up, it was sunnier, erm, and it was a very pleasant evening, you know, it was a nice sunny evening, warm”

TANNER
4078    “What was the weather like when you were there?”
Reply    “It wasn’t, again it wasn’t brilliant, I think it was nicer in the UK.”
4078    “So you went on the wrong day.”
Reply    “Yeah, I think err so it wasn’t, that’s one reason why we didn’t open the shutters to open the window or anything in that room, it wasn’t actually really hot at all, it was actually quite cloudy in the days and at night it was actually quite chilly.”
4078    “So it wasn’t sort of going in the pool weather or, only if you’re very brave.”
Reply    “No it was really, really cold,
* * * *
No, yeah, because the Thursday was actually probably one of the first nice days, which is why I think we had gone later in the day, we took all the kids down to the beach because it was actually nicer weather.  So, yeah, the Thursday was probably the first day I think the sun had more come out in the day”.

I remember I was wearing, because it was cold, I’d got Russell’s big, I’d borrowed one of his, erm, fleeces, so I’d got a big sort of fleece, it probably came down to about here, but then I’d got flip-flops on and cropped trousers, because I’d only got, I didn’t take jeans,

Diane Webster
4078   "But Wednesday stands out to you because you know the weather wasn’t very good?”
Reply    "Wednesday I remember because it was raining in the morning, we thought oh no tennis, you know, but we did have the tennis later on because I remember err we were waiting for the courts to dry.”

GM AND KM First statements
Apart from the Kids Club and the apartment, they only went to the beach with Madeleine and the other children once, and only for a very short period of time, because the weather was unstable, which happened between 1.30 and 3 p.m., when they returned to the club.

GM Second statement
They were at the beach for about 20 minutes, the deponent and MADELEINE having put their feet in the water. During this time the weather changed with a cloudy sky and cold, therefore they went to a terrace at a café near the beach, on the left, where they bought five ice-creams and two drinks.

Carole Tranmer (Mrs Fenn’s niece)
CT         'I believe it rained one day; it was a bit windy, besides this... it was wonderful weather 'not for sun bathing’, even though there were people doing just this but it was not really sun bathing weather.

[Ed.  I have taken this to be an observation in the English style of ironic humour, to be interpreted as “it was the sort of weather in which NOT to sun bathe !” ]

In any event the pattern is well established

Thursday is described as “transition day”, the weather beginning to change, with the evening being rather better.
Fiona Payne, a close friend and always ready to assist, says the evening was warm.
Jane Tanner, not a close friend, complained bitterly about the cold and made an issue of going to collect and then wear her partners thick fleece.

It was “a bit better” on Thursday, - but this is in comparison with Wednesday when it was raining  and the tennis was cancelled -
Thursday is the first day in their collective recollection that the sun had begun to come out.  It was a bit more clear. But still not warm enough for sunbathing.

And so on.

Against this gradual change of weather, with the final part of the evening clear and calm, is Kate’s strange assertion that there were no fewer than two very strong gusts of wind.  The first strong enough to slam a door she was actually holding at the time, against the weight and strength of her hand, wrist and arm, and the second a few moments later which ripped both full length curtains from where they were trapped behind the bed and the wicker chair against the wall, and blew them out horizontally in the style of the finest “Hammer Horror Film”, as she described and so vividly demonstrated in several videos and interviews, a long time after the alleged event.

The whooshing curtains and slamming door did not appear until 14 May 2009 and is repeated, with important alterations, in the book from 2011, at p.71
(The book version is bizarre, since it involves the door slamming against the control of Kate’s hand, wrist and arm,
then the door being left open whilst Kate checks the parents’ room,
and then the curtains whooshing -  but this time without slamming the door.)

None of this was recorded in the statements of 4th May, 10th May, nor in the Arguido interviews

What Kate has failed to notice is that PdL is a small town on the Atlantic coast.
This means that it has a small fishing fleet
This in turn means that weather conditions are and have always been very important to the fisher-folk.
This in turn means that, as with any other sea faring nation, the system of Meteorological reporting and the keeping of records has become highly specialised and extremely detailed.
And those reports are in the public domain, and go back a very long way.

And from examination of those records we can say with certainty that the descriptions of the weather by the Tapas7 are correct.
The weather that week was ghastly, heavily overcast, even with some light rain on the Wednesday.
On Thursday it began to change.  By mid to late afternoon the cloud was beginning to break up, and by late evening had largely dispersed, leaving a clear and still, and fairly cold night.

Clear and still  being the operative words.

Curtains ?  Door ?

MMRG: The 'Last Photo' Key Questions and Research - are we yet at Beyond a Reasonable Doubt?

The discussion into the Last Photo has undoubtedly created some of our most important research which has unearthed the McCanns deceit of trying to make people believe Madeleine was alive and well on Thursday 3rd May. Why?

The following thread has generated 37 pages of debate which then resulted in the creation of several 'Last Photo' research chapters in PeterMac's e-book, 'What Really Happened To Madeleine McCann?'. The e-book has been submitted to Operation Grange and the Portuguese Attorney-General with the request to investigate an earlier death.

Chapter 12: Floppy sun hats and flapping curtains ? This chapter emerged from the more formal Last Photo, Pool Photo work, when we started looking at weather charts, wind surfing competitions at Portimao, personal diaries of ex-pats, and the descriptions of temperature and weather in the Tapas group's statements and Rogatories.
It was soon realised that regardless of anything else, the wind and weather are capable of proving - on the balance of probabilities at the very least -
that the Last Pool photo cannot have been taken at lunchtime on 3/5/7
and that the curtains cannot have 'whooshed' at 10 pm on 3/5/7.

Chapter 14: The Last Photo = The Pool Photo
MMRG: The 'Last Photo' Key Questions and Research - are we yet at Beyond a Reasonable Doubt? The%2BLast%2BPhoto1

This is a heavily edited version of a paper which originally ran to 9 pages, with 24 pages of references, and four Appendices. Much of this appeared on CMoMM a long time ago. This analysis can be read independently of the 'Floppy Sun Hats and Flapping curtains' chapter, but overlaps with it.

Examination of this photo advanced in three main stages

First was to look at the photo and the statements surrounding it, and to examine who took it, and on which camera, and to ask why it was never, at any stage, released to the PJ.
This quickly led to the realisation that the photo itself was apparently sound. There was a robust argument about whether it had been photoshopped, but the strength of expert evidence is against this.
This in turn led to an examination of other aspects of it, the obvious weather, and the apparent wind speed being amongst these.
That led to yet another question. If the Last Photo was not taken at lunchtime on Thursday 3rd May, then when was it taken? Very quickly the only possible day presented itself, and this conclusion has defied serious destructive analysis.
That is dealt with in the Chapter (Floppy Sun hats and Flapping curtains)
From there the sequence of events, the identity of the person involved in the alteration of the Metadata, of the person who transported the finished image to PdL, and the person who then put this mendacious image into the public domain can easily be identified.
They are of course Capt. Louis Renault’s ‘Usual Suspects.’
But here, IF what we suspect turns out to be correct, then all four might be
Guilty of Conspiracy to Pervert the Course of Justice.
Of course if we are wrong, then they are not ! Only they know - know - the truth
.

Chapter 15: Almost the last word on the Last Photo !
In the Chapter Floppy sun hats and flapping curtains I showed how the Last Photo, the Pool Photo could not have been taken at lunchtime on 3rd May.
In the Chapter The Last Photo I showed how it was clearly possible for four clearly identifiable people, acting in concert, to take the image, alter the EXIF Metadata, take it back to PdL, and hand it to the person responsible for putting it into the public domain.
Both Chapters concentrated on proving what the photo was NOT.
Here I return to the theme, and try to establish what the photo actually IS.
In other words, when was it taken ?Chapter 28: The Pool Photo refuses to go away
The Pool Photo is of crucial importance. Of that there can be little doubt.

Balance of probabilities ? or are we yet at  Beyond a reasonable doubt ?

Questions first posed by by Tony Bennett on 26.02.11 10:10

1. Why was that 'last photo' of Madeleine not available on Thursday 3 May 2007?

2. Why did it take a visit to England by Dr Gerald McCann to produce it?

3. Was it really taken at 1.29pm/2.29pm on Thursday 3 May?

4. Who took it?

5. Was it photoshopped, by either Dr Gerald McCann and Amelie, or Madeleine, being 'photoshopped in' to an existing photograph?

6. What is the evidence that the photo was 'photoshopped'?

Madeleine McCann: The Mystery of the Make-Up Photo - was it taken on the same day as the Last Photo?

This photograph of Madeleine McCann, the so-called ‘Make-Up Photo’, has probably caused more debate than any other, except the so-called ‘Last Photo’.

The Mystery of the Make-Up Photo - was it taken on the same day as the Last Photo? Zzzzzz10The Make-Up Photo

The Mystery of the Make-Up Photo - was it taken on the same day as the Last Photo? Zzzzzz11The Last Photo

There is no serious doubt that each is a genuine photo. But there is a vital common question in relation to both photos, namely: when was each taken?

So far as the ‘Last Photo’ is concerned, very strong evidence, but not amounting  to proof, has been presented on CMOMM that the Last Photo was taken at lunchtime on Sunday 29 April and not lunchtime on Thursday 3 May.

The photo I really want is to discuss again is the ‘Make-Up Photo’. And I will get straight to the point: could the Make-Up Photo have been taken on the same day as the Last Photo? Was it taken in Praia da Luz that week?

A REMINDER OF THE KEY POINTS ABOUT THE MAKE-UP PHOTO:

When did it first appear?

It was a still picture included in this very strange 2-minute video produced by Madeleine’s godfather, Jon Corner, and released on 1 May 2010:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghIWyEdEB00

It was presumably distributed with the knowledge and consent of the McCanns. There is no commentary on the video. There is an emotional background song running throughout. Its images emphasise the abduction story and show images of Kate and Gerry campaigning, researching, talking to people and walking about, Kate clutching Cuddle Cat.

It has been said that the video was made as some kind of ‘warning’. Others note the strange way that the words shown on the screen are alternateiy fashioned by coming together, or break apart, and see some kind of hidden message in all of this. I am personally unable to see these things.

What other pictures of Madeleine are shown on this video?

The Make-Up Photo is the second of three images shown in close-up on the video. The three pictures are:

1 ‘Floorboard Photo’ – Madeleine on a floor, next to the skirting board, looking up coyly to the cameraman – seen from 1 min 01 sec to 1 min 14 sec on the film (13 seconds)

The Mystery of the Make-Up Photo - was it taken on the same day as the Last Photo? Zzzzzz12Floorboard Photo

2 ‘Make-Up Photo’ – seen from 1 min 14 sec to 1 min 19 sec (5 seconds)

3 ‘Ice Lolly Photo’ – Madeleine sucking an ice-lolly: 1 min 19 sec to 1 mon 23 sec (4 seconds).

The Mystery of the Make-Up Photo - was it taken on the same day as the Last Photo? Zzzzzz11 Ice Lolly Photo

Is Madeleine wearing a hair bead on any of the photos?

Yes. On the Make-Up Photo and on the Ice Lolly Photo. Madeleine is also wearing a hair bead on the Last Photo. On all three photos the hair bead looks a similar colour i.e. pink.

Can Madeleine’s clothing be seen on any of the photos?

Yes. On the Floorboard Photo. She is wearing a pink dress or smock with narrow pink straps over her shoulders. This looks identical to the pink dress or smock she is wearing on the Last Photo.

Are there any clues as to the location of any of the three photos?

The Floorboard Photo was taken inside. The Make-Up Photo was taken outside and shows a background stucco wall, coloured yellow/ochre. Stucco walls of this kind are extremely common in the Mediterranean but unusual in  the U.K. The blue patch has been identified by some as a bright blue coloured plastic chair. The Ice Lolly Photo was taken inside and one can see what looks like indoor furniture in the background.

At what age were these three pictures taken?

Most of those who have viewed these three pictures and the Last Photo agree that they were taken at about the same age.

Does Madeleine’s hair length look any different on these photos?

Most agree that on all four photos, including the Last Photo, Madeleine’s hair looks the same length.

How did the McCann explain the Make-Up Photo?

They said that Madeleine had been playing with Mummy’s make-up box. On the same day that the video was released, Daily Mail journalist Daniel Bates wrote: “Kate and Gerry McCann have released a new picture of their daughter Madeleine as they prepare to commemorate tomorrow’s third anniversary of her disappearance. The photo shows her when she was three after a raid on the dressing-up box. She has a pink bow in her hair and a gold bead necklace and is wearing blue eyeshadow. It was taken weeks before the fateful family holiday to the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz when Madeleine vanished”.

The story of the ‘raid on the dressing-box has been queried by many. The key concerns have been: who put the necklace in Madeleine, who out the hair bead on Madeleine, and could Madeleine have applied the neat-looking blue eyeshadow herself?

The McCanns have not revealed the date and time stamp of any of the photos (except the Last Photo).

What was the public reaction to the Make-Up Photo?

Many people were concerned se about it. A list of reactions is posted in CMOMM here: https://jillhavern.forumotion.net/t1912-60-reasons-why-the-mccanns-should-never-have-published-that-photo

Mark Williams-Thomas, the self-proclaimed child abuse expert, said it should not have been released. Perhaps, more significantly, an article in The Independent said this about it:
http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/com.... d-1961380.html

“People these days are increasingly protective of practically ANY image of children, parents are forbidden from taking photographs at school plays, photos in which children are visible in background shots at tourist attractions have been confiscated etc. Practically any image of a child is seen as being of interest to those with paedophile tendencies. I don't claim to understand why this is the case, but that's the way that things appear to be. “In my view, which is of course completely out of step with the mainstream thinking on these issues, a child wearing make-up, or adult clothes certainly does not in itself constitute a pornographic or inappropriate image. However, if a fully clothed child standing in a street can be considered material of interest for a paedophile, then photographs of this nature should certainly fall within the same category. I am male, and like practically every other male that I have socialised with since from the age of about 6, to a greater or lesser we have all been exposed to pornography. I'm not great fan of pornography, nor have I been exposed to a great deal, but I could certainly give you a pretty good description of the stereotypical images that the producers of this product tend to use. It's a definite genre, with a definite style, camera angles, lighting, model poses etc. I know what picture of a child playing looks like, my parents have albums of pictures of my sister as a child playing with make-up, dressing up. I also understand when I'm seeing the deliberate sexualisation of a child. I also know which end of that spectrum that those images lie. I've previously critisised people for expressing these sorts of views, but when you see the three Madeleine pictures in that video in close succession you start asking: what's the probability that this is just some sort of accidental pose? I really don't like the answer. I'm not a photographer, nor a film maker, nor actively involved in the media, and so if I can pick up on these references, then Jon Corner [who produced the latest Madeleine video] most certainly can”.

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

A working hypothesis is that the Last Photo was taken at lunch-time on Sunday 29 April and that the other three were taken at a photo shoot that afternoon, with someone arranging and re-arranging the position of Madeleine’s hear bead.

These are the questions that seem to me most relevant:

1 Is the dress/smock top that Madeleine is wearing in the Floorboard Phot the same as the one in the Last Photo?

2 Is the hair bead the same in the three photos where it appears?

3 Is Madeleine’s hair length the same in all four photos?

4 Does she look the same age in all the photos?

5 Do we have any other evidence (apart from the McCanns’ statement) of when the Make-Up photo was taken?

6 Could Madeleine have put on the necklace and hair bead and applied the blue eye shadow herself?

7 What evidence is there, if any, that any of the three photos could not have been taken on the very same day as the Last Photo?

8 Do we have any other photographic or other evidence of when any of these three photos were taken?
